Solar Design Associates, in partnership with Cedar Energy Investors LLC, recently completed the design and installation of a 96 kW rooftop mounted PV system on the Boston Duck Tours headquarters in Dorchester, MA.
Solar Design Associates enlisted the help of KW Management of Nashua, NH to install the PV system. Overall, the solar system uses 377 PV modules installed on the roof, taking advantage of space that would normally remain unused. The inverter for the project was provided by Solectria Renewables of Lawrence, MA
“The timelines involved with this project were particularly tight.” says Robert Erb, SDA’s project manager. “Despite the six week waiting period for a Building Permit, the bitter cold weather, and shoveling snow from the roof on three different occasions, we were able to get this project installed and approved before the end of the calender year.”
Getting the necessary approval for the system before the end of 2013 meant the project owners could take full advantage of certain tax programs, and it also allowed the system to participate in the Solar Renewable Energy Credit (SREC I) program.
Steven Strong, President of Solar Design Associates, remarks that “we were very happy to be involved with this project. We enjoyed collaborating with Cedar Energy, KW Management, and the folks at Boston Duck Tours and we are confident that the system will provide worry free electricity and income for the next 20 years.”
