Engineered and Designed by Solar Design Associates, the Groton School in Groton, Massachusetts recently installed the John B Goodenough Solar Battery Farm, a 127.28 kWdc / 120.0 kWac Ground Mount solar array with a 500.0 kWac / 1.112 MWhr lithium ion battery storage system. The system is aptly named for Groton School alumnus John B. Goodenough, who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his foundational research into the lithium ion battery.
The Groton School and the municipal utility, Groton Electric Light Department (GELD), reached an agreement where GELD will manage the battery in anticipation of peak transmission events, reducing both GELD’s and the school’s demand costs.
