United Nations World Headquarters

New York City, New York

SDA was asked by the United Nations to help power their world headquarters in New York with solar electricity as part of a complete refurbishment of the iconic complex.

SDA collaborated with the UN design team to define multiple options to incorporate PV including BIPV facade glazing, sunshades, skylights, and canopies as well as roof-top and ground-mount arrays totaling over 1 MW in capacity. The multi-year project is the first full renovation of the UN Headquarters since it was completed in the mid 1960s and will include complete upgrades of all mechanical, electrical, lighting, information, and communications systems as well as the building envelope of all facilities.
